Problem

Crystalline silicon at a vacuum wavelength of 900 nm, just below its band edge, has complex refractive index n~=3.85+0.020i\tilde n = 3.85 + 0.020i. Idealise a wafer as a plane-parallel slab of this material with negligible reflection loss at its surfaces. ((a)) Find the absorption coefficient α\alpha. ((b)) Find the fraction of the incident intensity transmitted through a wafer 10 μ\mum thick.
