Problem

A laboratory beam carries total power 5.0 mW5.0\ \text{mW} and has degree of polarisation P=0.40P = 0.40, and its polarised part is linearly polarised. ((a)) Find the power carried by the fully polarised part and by the unpolarised part of the unique decomposition. ((b)) Find the maximum and minimum power transmitted by an ideal polarising analyser as it is rotated through the beam, and state at what analyser setting each occurs.
