Problem

A magneto-optic rod of length d=15 mmd = 15\,\mathrm{mm} has Verdet constant VV=200 rad T−1 m−1V_{\mathrm{V}} = 200\,\mathrm{rad\,T^{-1}\,m^{-1}} at the operating wavelength. ((a)) A field B=0.25 TB = 0.25\,\mathrm{T} is applied along the rod axis. Find the rotation of the plane of polarisation. ((b)) What field B′B' would give exactly 90∘90^\circ of rotation over the same length?
