Problem

A solid-state reference cavity is a crystal of refractive index n=1.50n=1.50 and length d=15.0d=15.0 mm, with identical, lossless mirrors of power reflectance R=0.995\mathcal{R}=0.995 on its two end faces. It is probed with light of vacuum wavelength λ0=1064\lambda_0=1064 nm. ((a)) The amplitude impulse response of the cavity (field in, field out) is a train of pulses spaced by the round-trip time TT, the mmth weighted by t1t2(r1r2)mt_1t_2(r_1r_2)^m. Give the numerical values of TT, of the amplitude ratio r1r2r_1r_2 between successive pulses, and of the weight t1t2t_1t_2 of the first pulse. ((b)) Hence give the free spectral range, the finesse, the linewidth (FWHM in frequency), the photon lifetime τp\tau_p, and the quality factor QQ of the cavity.
