Problem

A razor blade acting as a straight edge is illuminated by a collimated beam at λ=532 nm\lambda = 532\,\mathrm{nm}. Far from the edge on the illuminated side, the irradiance is I0=2.0 W m−2I_0 = 2.0\,\mathrm{W\,m^{-2}}. A screen is placed a distance zz behind the edge such that the Fresnel approximation is valid. ((a)) State the amplitude, relative to the unobstructed amplitude, at the point on the screen lying on the geometrical shadow boundary. ((b)) Hence find the irradiance at that point, in W m−2\mathrm{W\,m^{-2}}.
