Problem

A 40×40\times microscope objective has NA=0.75\mathrm{NA} = 0.75 on the object side and a field number of 25 mm25\ \mathrm{mm} measured at the image plane; it is used incoherently at λ=550 nm\lambda = 550\ \mathrm{nm}. ((a)) Find the diameter, and hence the area, of the imaged field at the object. ((b)) Compute the incoherent cutoff frequency at the object. ((c)) Compute the space-bandwidth product SBP=Aπνc2\mathrm{SBP} = A\pi\nu_c^2 of the irradiance image.
