Problem

An optical coherence tomography system designed for skin imaging uses a source centred at λ0=1300 nm\lambda_0 = 1300\ \mathrm{nm} with a Gaussian spectral bandwidth Δλ=80 nm\Delta\lambda = 80\ \mathrm{nm} (full width at half maximum). Skin has refractive index n=1.35n = 1.35. ((a)) Compute the axial resolution δz\delta z inside the skin. ((b)) Compute the equivalent axial resolution the same source would give in air (n=1n=1).
