Problem

A hologram of a diffuse object is recorded at λ=633 nm\lambda = 633\ \mathrm{nm} with a plane reference wave at θR=35∘\theta_R = 35^\circ to the axis. The object's spatial-frequency content extends up to νmax⁡=120\nu_{\max} = 120 cycles per millimetre. The recording emulsion is specified to resolve spatial frequencies up to 30003000 cycles per millimetre. ((a)) Compute the carrier spatial frequency νcar=sin⁡θR/λ\nu_{\mathrm{car}} = \sin\theta_R/\lambda and check whether the separation condition νcar≥3νmax⁡\nu_{\mathrm{car}} \ge 3\nu_{\max} is satisfied. ((b)) State the spatial frequency the emulsion must actually resolve, νcar+νmax⁡\nu_{\mathrm{car}}+\nu_{\max}, and say whether the emulsion is adequate.
