Problem

Both an A.P. and a G.P. begin with the same first term 44. Their respectively unknown common difference dd and common ratio rr (r>0r>0, r≠1r\neq 1) satisfy the following conditions: • The mm-th term of the A.P. equals the nn-th term of the G.P. • The (m+3)(m+3)-rd term of the A.P. equals the (n+1)(n+1)-th term of the G.P. (i) Express dd in terms of rr, mm and nn. (ii) Hence find the numerical values of dd and rr when m=5m=5 and n=3n=3.
