Problem

A rectangular park is 150 m150\,\text{m} long and 100 m100\,\text{m} wide. A jogger starts at the south-west corner and runs along the boundary in an anti-clockwise direction for two complete laps before coming to rest. (i) Draw a simple labelled sketch of the path followed. (ii) Calculate the total distance covered by the jogger. (iii) Determine the jogger’s displacement from the starting point after completing the first lap. (iv) Determine the jogger’s displacement from the starting point after completing the second lap. (v) Compare and comment on your results from parts (ii), (iii) and (iv) to highlight the conceptual difference between distance and displacement.
