Problem

A metal block of mass 2.5 kg2.5\,\text{kg} is lifted vertically from the ground to the top of a laboratory bench 75 cm75\,\text{cm} high and then further to a shelf 1.20 m1.20\,\text{m} above the bench. Take the value of gg as 10 m s−210\,\text{m s}^{-2}. (i) Calculate the increase in gravitational potential energy of the block when it is placed on the bench. (ii) Calculate the additional energy required to raise the block from the bench to the shelf. (iii) Find the total energy gained by the block from the ground to the shelf.
