Problem

Let S1(n)=∑k=1nkS_1(n)=\sum_{k=1}^{n} k, S2(n)=∑k=1nk2S_2(n)=\sum_{k=1}^{n} k^{2} and S3(n)=∑k=1nk3S_3(n)=\sum_{k=1}^{n} k^{3}. (a) Show that S2(n)[S1(n)]2=2(2n+1)3n(n+1).\frac{S_2(n)}{[S_1(n)]^{2}}=\frac{2(2n+1)}{3n(n+1)}. (b) Hence or otherwise, determine the limiting value of S2(n)[S1(n)]2\dfrac{S_2(n)}{[S_1(n)]^{2}} as nn becomes very large. (c) Using the result in part (b), briefly explain which of the sums S1(n)S_1(n) and S2(n)S_2(n) grows faster for large nn and why.
