Problem

A student uses a single lens as a simple magnifier for reading small print. The lens has a focal length of 4.0 cm4.0\,\text{cm}. The printed letters are kept 3.0 cm3.0\,\text{cm} from the lens on its principal axis. (i) Calculate the position and nature of the image produced by the lens. (ii) Find the linear magnification obtained. (iii) Comment, with one reason, on whether the chosen object distance gives a clear magnified image suitable for comfortable reading.
