Problem

A small block of mass 0.5 kg0.5\,\text{kg} is released from rest at point A which is 5.0 m5.0\,\text{m} above the lowest point B of a smooth frictionless track. After passing through B the track rises smoothly to point C which is 2.0 m2.0\,\text{m} above B. Neglect air resistance. (i) Derive an expression for the speed vv of the block at any point where its height above B is hh. (ii) Calculate the speed of the block at B. (iii) Determine the speed of the block at C. (iv) After leaving point C the block moves vertically upward without any further support. Calculate the maximum additional vertical height it will rise above C.
