Problem

Two cars AA and BB move on parallel lanes of a straight highway with identical speeds of 60 km h−160\,\text{km h}^{-1}. Car AA travels due east while car BB travels due west. (a) Identify which physical quantity (speed or velocity) is the same for both cars and which is different. State your answer clearly. (b) Explain, with suitable reasoning, why the quantity you identified in part (a) differs even though the magnitudes of motion appear equal. (c) Both cars continue their motion for 0.5 h0.5\,\text{h}. Compare the magnitudes of their distances and the magnitudes of their displacements for this time interval, giving reasons for each comparison.
