Problem

A 0.40 kg0.40\,\text{kg} block is attached to a horizontal spring of force constant 80 N m−180\,\text{N}\,\text{m}^{-1}. The block is pulled 0.050 m0.050\,\text{m} from equilibrium and released from rest on a friction-free surface. (i) Calculate the angular frequency ω\omega, the frequency ff, and the time period TT of the resulting oscillation. (ii) Determine the maximum speed vmax⁡v_{\max} reached by the block during its motion. (iii) Find the total mechanical energy of the system. (iv) Compute the speed of the block when its displacement from equilibrium is 0.030 m0.030\,\text{m} toward the mean position.
