Problem

Read the following statements carefully and answer the questions that follow. (i) Define linear momentum and write its SI unit. (ii) A student says, “A heavier object always possesses more momentum than a lighter object.” Do you agree with this statement? Give one illustrative example to support your answer without performing any numerical calculation. (iii) A ball of mass 2 kg2\,\text{kg} moving with a speed of 3 m s−13\,\text{m s}^{-1} and a ball of mass 1 kg1\,\text{kg} moving with a speed of 6 m s−16\,\text{m s}^{-1} travel in the same direction. Using appropriate calculations, decide which ball has the greater momentum and explain how your answer relates to the student’s statement in part (ii).
