Problem

For the He+^{+} ion (Z=2Z=2), an electron makes a transition from the n=4n=4 orbit to the n=2n=2 orbit. (a) Calculate the energy released in electron-volts (eV). (b) Hence find the wavelength of the emitted photon in nanometres. Take h=6.63×10−34 J sh=6.63\times10^{-34}\,\text{J s}, c=3.00×108 m s−1c=3.00\times10^{8}\,\text{m s}^{-1} and 1 eV=1.6×10−19 J1\,\text{eV}=1.6\times10^{-19}\,\text{J}.
