Problem

In a vacuum, light travels at approximately 2.9979×1082.9979 \times 10^8 m s-1. (a) How far will light travel in: i 1 minute ii 1 day? (b) Assuming a year ≈365.25\approx 365.25 days, calculate one light-year, the distance light will travel in a vacuum in a year. (c) Apart from our own sun, the closest star to Earth is Proxima Centauri, which is an average distance of 4.22 light-years from Earth. Write this length in metres.
