A stretched string of length 0.80m is fixed at both ends. When it vibrates, three antinodes are observed along its length. The frequency of vibration at this stage is 450Hz. Analyse the situation as follows:
(a) Draw the standing–wave pattern on the string and state which harmonic is being produced.
(b) Deduce the wavelength of the stationary wave on the string.
(c) Calculate the speed of the transverse wave along the string.
(d) The tension in the string is now reduced so that the wave speed becomes 90% of its original value. Keeping the same standing–wave pattern (three antinodes), determine the new frequency of vibration.
