Problem

A constant-mass slider of mass 2.0 kg2.0\,\text{kg} moves on a horizontal frictionless guide. During the time interval 0≤t≤2.0 s0 \le t \le 2.0\,\text{s} a time–dependent horizontal force acts on it, given by F(t)=3t2 NF(t)=3t^{2}\,\text{N}. There is no horizontal force on the slider before t=0t=0 or after t=2.0 st=2.0\,\text{s}. Its initial velocity at t=0t=0 is 4.0 m s−14.0\,\text{m s}^{-1} in the direction of the force. (i) Calculate the impulse delivered to the slider during the interval of action. (ii) Hence determine the velocity of the slider at t=2.0 st=2.0\,\text{s}.
