Problem

A body of mass mm executes simple harmonic motion of amplitude AA. Its total mechanical energy is EE. The amplitude of the motion is suddenly increased by 10\% while the mass and the spring constant remain unchanged. (i) Express the new total mechanical energy E′E' in terms of EE. (ii) Calculate the percentage change in total mechanical energy resulting from the increase in amplitude. (iii) If the original total energy was 0.80 J0.80\,\text{J}, find the new total energy to two significant figures.
