A step-index plastic fibre has core refractive index 1.60 and cladding refractive index 1.50. Light from air is launched normally on its polished end face.
(i) Calculate the critical angle at the core–cladding interface.
(ii) Determine the maximum angle that the incident ray in air may make with the fibre axis so that it remains guided inside the core.
