Problem
During a laboratory test, a rocket sled of mass 2.0 × 10³ kg is propelled along a straight horizontal track by a constant thrust force provided by its engines. The sled accelerates uniformly from rest and reaches a speed of 72 km h⁻¹ in 6.0 s. Neglect any frictional forces.
(a) Calculate the magnitude of the acceleration of the sled during the test.
(b) Determine the thrust force exerted by the engines on the sled.
(c) If, after some time, the mass of the sled is reduced to 1.6 × 10³ kg while the engines deliver the same thrust force, find the new acceleration produced.
