Problem

A bus moves along a straight highway in two stages. (i) In the first stage it covers 40 km40\,\text{km} in 1 h1\,\text{h}. (ii) In the second stage it covers an additional 60 km60\,\text{km} in 2 h2\,\text{h}. Answer the following: (a) Calculate the total distance travelled and the total time taken. (b) Determine the average speed of the bus for the entire journey. (c) If the bus had maintained a single uniform speed to cover the same 100 km100\,\text{km} in the same total time, what would that uniform speed have been? (d) Draw a distance–time graph for the complete motion, marking clearly the two stages and the key numerical values.
