Problem

Three displacements act successively on a body moving in a horizontal plane: A=3 i^−2 j^\mathbf{A}=3\,\hat{i}-2\,\hat{j} m, B=−1 i^+4 j^\mathbf{B}=-1\,\hat{i}+4\,\hat{j} m, and C=2 i^+12 j^\mathbf{C}=2\,\hat{i}+\dfrac{1}{2}\,\hat{j} m. (i) Find the rectangular components of the resultant displacement. (ii) Calculate the magnitude of the resultant displacement. (iii) Determine the angle made by the resultant displacement with the positive xx–axis, measuring the angle counter-clockwise in the range 0∘0^{\circ} to 360∘360^{\circ}.
