Problem

When a simple pendulum is at its extreme position, the bob is observed to be 3.0 cm3.0\,\text{cm} away from the mean position along the circular arc. At that instant the angle between the string and the vertical is measured to be 0.040 rad0.040\,\text{rad}. Taking g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m s}^{-2}, answer the following for this pendulum. (a) Calculate the length of the pendulum. (b) Using the length obtained in part (a), find the time period of small oscillations. (c) If the mass of the bob is 0.40 kg0.40\,\text{kg}, determine the magnitude of the tangential restoring force acting on it at the extreme position.
