Problem

Consider the arithmetic sequence u1,u2,u3,…u_1, u_2, u_3, \dots. The sum of the first nn terms of this sequence is given by Sn=n2+4nS_n = n^2 + 4n. (a.i) Find the sum of the first five terms. (a.ii) Given that S6=60S_6 = 60, find u6u_6. (b) Find u1u_1. (c) Hence or otherwise, write an expression for unu_n in terms of nn. Consider a geometric sequence, vnv_n, where v2=u1v_2 = u_1 and v4=u6v_4 = u_6. (d) Find the possible values of the common ratio, rr. (e) Given that v99<0v_{99} < 0, find v5v_5.
