Problem

Let OO be the centre of a circle and let ABAB be a chord of the circle. A point CC lies on ABAB such that OC⊥ABOC \perp AB. Prove the following statements. (i) Show that CC is the midpoint of ABAB. (ii) Conversely, if CC is the midpoint of chord ABAB, prove that OCOC is perpendicular to ABAB. Thus establish a necessary and sufficient condition relating a perpendicular from the centre and the midpoint of a chord.
