Problem

A particle with charge 7.80 μC7.80\,\mu\text{C} is moving with velocity v=−(3.80×103 m/s)j^\mathbf{v}=-(3.80\times10^3\,\text{m/s})\hat{\mathbf{j}}. The magnetic force on the particle is measured to be F=+(7.60×10−3 N)i^−(5.20×10−3 N)k^\mathbf{F}=+(7.60\times10^{-3}\,\text{N})\hat{\mathbf{i}}-(5.20\times10^{-3}\,\text{N})\hat{\mathbf{k}}. (1) Calculate the components of the magnetic field that can be found from this information. (2) Are there components of the magnetic field that are not determined by the force measurement? Explain. (3) Calculate the scalar product B⋅F\mathbf{B}\cdot\mathbf{F}. What is the angle between B\mathbf{B} and F\mathbf{F}?
