Problem

A boy riding a bicycle moves along a straight road in three successive stages: (i) 500 m500\,\text{m} east in 100 s100\,\text{s}, (ii) 300 m300\,\text{m} west in 60 s60\,\text{s}, and (iii) 200 m200\,\text{m} east in 40 s40\,\text{s}. Taking the eastward direction as positive, answer the following: (a) Find the total distance travelled and the total time taken. (b) Calculate the net displacement. (c) Determine the average speed for the entire motion. (d) Determine the average velocity for the entire motion, stating its sign and magnitude.
