Problem

A plastic surface has microscopic grooves spaced about 120 nm apart. Visible green light of wavelength 550 nm reflects from the surface and appears mirror-like, but ultraviolet light of wavelength 275 nm produces only a hazy glow. Explain the difference in appearance in terms of the relationship between wavelength and surface roughness.
