Problem

An industrial furnace is monitored by an optical sensor that records the wavelength at which the furnace radiates most strongly. On a particular day this peak wavelength is found to be 3.0 μm3.0\,\mu\text{m}. Use b=2.9×10−3 m Kb = 2.9\times10^{-3}\,\text{m\,K} for any calculation. (a) Determine the absolute temperature of the interior wall of the furnace. (b) Express the temperature obtained in part (a) in degrees Celsius. (c) If the furnace temperature is raised by 15%15\%, calculate the new wavelength at which maximum emission will occur.
