Problem

A 0.15 kg0.15\,\text{kg} ball moving to the right at 12 m s−112\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} collides head-on with a 0.25 kg0.25\,\text{kg} ball moving to the left at 8 m s−18\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. The coefficient of restitution for the balls is 0.750.75. (i) Calculate the speed and direction of each ball immediately after the collision. (ii) Find the magnitude and direction of the impulse experienced by each ball during the impact. (iii) Determine the change in kinetic energy of the two-ball system as a result of the collision.
