Problem
A block of mass 2kg is released from rest at the top of a rough incline that is 1.5m long and makes an angle of 30∘ with the horizontal. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the incline is 0.20. After leaving the incline, the block moves on to a smooth horizontal table and compresses a light horizontal spring of force constant 800N m−1 until it momentarily comes to rest.
Answer the following:
(a) Calculate the speed of the block just as it reaches the bottom of the incline.
(b) Determine the maximum compression produced in the spring.
(c) Find the total mechanical energy lost due to friction during the entire motion.
