Problem

To launch a 0.50 kg0.50\,\text{kg} toy rocket, a device exerts a vertical force that changes with time as follows. Starting from zero, the force rises uniformly to 600 N600\,\text{N} in time t1t_1, stays constant at 600 N600\,\text{N} for the next 0.010 s0.010\,\text{s}, and then falls uniformly back to zero in the same time t1t_1. The force is directed upward throughout the contact. (i) The required change in momentum for a successful launch is 12 N s12\,\text{N\,s}. Calculate the value of t1t_1 that achieves this requirement. (ii) Using your result from (i), determine the average force acting on the rocket during the entire contact interval. (iii) Compute the speed imparted to the rocket as it leaves the launcher.
