Problem

A commuter train is scheduled to travel between two stations that are 30 km30\,\text{km} apart along a straight track. To stay on schedule, the train must complete the trip in 40 min40\,\text{min}. On a particular morning the train departs the first station 5.0 min5.0\,\text{min} late but still must arrive at the second station at the scheduled time. (a) Determine the required travel time, in minutes, for the train to remain on schedule under normal conditions. (b) Because of the late departure, calculate the constant average speed the train must now maintain (in km h−1\text{km\,h}^{-1}) to arrive on time. (c) Express the speed found in part (b) in m s−1\text{m\,s}^{-1}, showing your unit conversion steps.
