Problem

A body performs simple harmonic motion of period 2.0 s2.0\,\text{s} about x=0x = 0. Its displacements at two instants are recorded as follows: • x=0.12 mx = 0.12\,\text{m} at t=0.25 st = 0.25\,\text{s} • x=−0.08 mx = -0.08\,\text{m} at t=0.75 st = 0.75\,\text{s} (i) Taking the cosine form of displacement, set up two simultaneous equations in the unknown amplitude AA and initial phase ϕ\phi. (ii) Solve the equations to obtain numerical values of AA and ϕ\phi (answer for ϕ\phi in radians within the range −π<ϕ≤π-\pi < \phi \le \pi). (iii) Using the values found, compute the displacement and velocity of the body at t=1.0 st = 1.0\,\text{s}.
