Problem

A runner completes a two-part training route on a college campus. In the first leg, she travels 5.0 km5.0\,\text{km} due east in 20 min20\,\text{min}. Immediately afterward she turns and runs 3.0 km3.0\,\text{km} due south in 12 min12\,\text{min}, ending her workout at that point. (a) Determine the magnitude and direction of the runner’s net displacement relative to her starting point. Express the direction as an angle south of east. (b) Calculate the total elapsed time of the workout in seconds. (c) Using your results from parts (a) and (b), compute the magnitude and direction of the runner’s average velocity vector for the entire workout.
