Problem

Let AA and BB be two events such that P(A)=0.45P(A)=0.45 and P(A∪B)=0.70P(A\cup B)=0.70. It is known that AA and BB are independent. (a) Find P(B)P(B). (b) Verify that your answer satisfies the information given in the question. (c) Let B‾\overline B denote the complement of BB. Prove that if AA and BB are independent, then AA and B‾\overline B are also independent. (d) Using the result in part (c), find P(A∩B‾)P(A\cap \overline B) and confirm that it equals P(A)P(B‾)P(A)P(\overline B).
