Problem

Solutions of sodium carbonate and calcium chloride are mixed, producing a precipitate. • Volume and concentration of sodium carbonate solution: 50.0 mL50.0\,\text{mL} of 0.200 M0.200\,\text{M} • Volume and concentration of calcium chloride solution: 75.0 mL75.0\,\text{mL} of 0.150 M0.150\,\text{M} Answer the questions that follow. (a) Write the balanced net ionic equation for the reaction that produces the precipitate. (b) Using the volumes and molarities given above, identify the limiting reactant. (c) Calculate the mass, in grams, of precipitate formed. (d) Determine the molar concentration of the ion that remains in excess after the reaction has gone to completion. Assume that the total volume is the sum of the initial solution volumes and that volume change upon mixing is negligible.
