Problem

Two parallel chords of a circle with centre OO have lengths 24 cm24\,\text{cm} and 18 cm18\,\text{cm}. The chords lie on opposite sides of OO and the distance between them is 21 cm21\,\text{cm}. (i) Prove that the longer chord is nearer to the centre than the shorter chord. (ii) Calculate the perpendicular distance of each chord from OO. (iii) Hence determine the radius of the circle.
