Problem

Consider the region enclosed by the curves x=y24+1,x=y+1x = \frac{y^{2}}{4}+1, \qquad x = y+1 and the horizontal lines y=−1,y=3.y = -1, \qquad y = 3. (i) Draw a rough sketch of the two curves and shade the required region. (ii) Find the points of intersection of the two curves that lie between the given horizontal lines. (iii) Hence determine the exact area of the region bounded by the four curves.
