Problem
A small compass is positioned 15cm from the north pole of a bar magnet along the magnet’s axis. A thick sheet of soft iron (high magnetic permeability) is then inserted so that it completely fills the space between the magnet and the compass while remaining perpendicular to the axis. Indicate whether the compass needle will now experience a magnetic field that is stronger, weaker, or the same as before, and briefly explain your reasoning.
