Problem

A tuning fork X of unknown frequency produces 8 beats per second with a standard fork of frequency 256 Hz256\,\text{Hz}. When the prongs of fork X are slightly loaded with a small piece of wax, it now produces 4 beats per second with the same standard fork and its frequency is observed to decrease. (i) Determine the original frequency of fork X. (ii) Calculate the time interval between successive maxima of sound intensity before and after loading.
