Problem

While practising ice-hockey, a player exerts a constant horizontal force of 8 N8\,\text{N} on a crate that slides without friction on the ice. The crate is observed to accelerate at 0.40 m s−20.40\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. (i) Calculate the inertial mass of the crate. (ii) If the same horizontal force is applied to this crate on the surface of the Moon where gMoon=1.6 m s−2g_{\text{Moon}} = 1.6\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}, find the acceleration produced. (iii) Determine the weight of the crate on the Earth’s surface where g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. State your answer with the proper unit.
