Problem

A point object O is placed 6 cm in front of a plane mirror. A ray OA strikes the mirror at point A making an angle of 35° with the normal drawn at A. (a) Draw the reflected ray corresponding to OA, clearly showing the angle formed with the normal. (b) From O draw a second ray OB that reaches the mirror at a different point B of your choice. Show its reflected ray. (c) Extend the two reflected rays backward and locate the image I of the point object. (d) Measure the distance OI and compare it with the given object distance of 6 cm. What conclusion do you draw? (e) Using geometrical reasoning based on your construction, prove that the image of a point in a plane mirror is always formed at the same perpendicular distance behind the mirror as the object is in front of it.
