Problem

Magnesium metal reacts with aqueous hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen gas. In an experiment, a student reacts excess magnesium ribbon with 0.150 M HCl\text{HCl} solution. The hydrogen is collected over water at 25 °C. After the reaction is complete, 475 mL of gas is obtained at a total pressure of 755 mmHg. The vapor pressure of water at 25 °C is 24 mmHg. (a) Calculate the amount, in moles, of dry hydrogen gas produced in the experiment. (b) Determine the volume of the HCl\text{HCl} solution that reacted with the magnesium.
