Problem

A scooter of mass 150 kg150\,\text{kg} and a truck of mass 3000 kg3000\,\text{kg} are moving along a straight road with the same velocity of 10 m/s10\,\text{m/s} towards the north. (i) Calculate the momentum of the scooter and the truck. (ii) If both drivers apply the same magnitude of braking force at the same instant, which vehicle will require a longer distance to come to rest? Give a qualitative explanation based on your answer to part (i). (iii) Suppose instead that the scooter and the truck were moving such that their momenta were equal. What would be the ratio of their velocities in that case? Support your answer with suitable reasoning.
