Problem

A 0.20 kg rubber ball is thrown horizontally toward a massive rigid wall. The ball strikes the wall, rebounds elastically, and is then observed to rise vertically to a maximum height of 1.2 m above the point of impact before it starts to fall back down. Assume the time the ball spends in contact with the wall is negligible compared with its flight time, and neglect air resistance. (a) Determine the speed vrv_{r} of the ball immediately after rebounding from the wall. (b) Calculate the speed viv_{i} of the ball just before it makes contact with the wall. (c) Find the magnitude of the impulse delivered to the ball by the wall.
